You’re considering the OutIn Mino and original OutIn Nano, and the newer Mino initially looks like the obvious upgrade. It’s shorter, offers stronger published water and dust protection, and promises better battery and heating performance. But the choice gets less obvious when you consider how much ground coffee each machine can brew.

The original Nano supports a separate 16–18g Basket Plus. Mino’s standard basket is larger, but it cannot use Nano’s accessory. Your choice depends on whether you use capsules, pre-ground coffee or freshly ground beans.

Quick verdict: Consider Mino if you want a compact, more weather-resistant machine and its 12g ground-coffee basket suits your routine. Consider the original Nano with Basket Plus if you want a 16–18g dose and more control over larger espresso shots. If battery endurance is your top priority, compare Nano 2 before ordering.

What Actually Changes Between Mino and Nano?

Both are portable, battery-powered espresso makers that can heat water and brew with ground coffee or Nespresso Original Line-compatible capsules. Their meaningful differences concern basket capacity, size, protection and battery expectations. OutIn lists the original Nano at 670g and 230mm tall; Mino is 685g but only 195mm tall. Mino is shorter, not lighter. [1] [2]

Mino carries an IP67 rating, compared with Nano’s IPX4 rating. That is relevant if you expect dust, splashes or changing outdoor conditions. For Mino, OutIn warns that protection can diminish with wear, and liquid damage is excluded from its warranty. [1]

Do You Need Mino’s 12g Basket or Nano’s Basket Plus?

If you want to brew with the included equipment

Mino’s standard grounds basket holds up to approximately 12g, whereas the original Nano’s standard basket holds around 6–8g. For somebody who doesn’t intend to buy accessories, Mino starts with more grounds capacity. That may influence the strength and size of the drink you can prepare, although dose alone does not guarantee better flavor. Beans, grind and extraction still matter. [1] [2]

If you prefer larger ground-coffee shots

The original Nano’s optional Basket Plus accommodates 16–18g. That is the more relevant setup for buyers who specifically want a larger espresso dose, including some people preparing milk drinks. It also means buying and carrying another accessory, and the basket works best when you can manage a suitable fine grind. Independent comparisons discuss this trade-off rather than declaring a universal winner. [3] [5]

Can the Nano Basket Plus fit Mino?

No. OutIn’s compatibility FAQ says the original Nano Basket Plus is not compatible with Mino. The company has previewed a separate Mino Basket Plus intended to hold up to 18g, but its retail availability and price were not confirmed for this October 2026 review. Mino’s existing 3-in-1 filter basket kit contains three standard 12g baskets, not a larger double-shot basket. Don’t base today’s purchase on an accessory you cannot yet confirm is available. What if You Use Capsules or Pre-Ground Coffee?

If you usually use Nespresso Original Line capsules, both machines offer that option. A larger grounds basket may not justify extra spending if you rarely brew loose coffee. Focus instead on packing size, battery needs and current price. Do not assume either machine accepts Nespresso Vertuo or Dolce Gusto capsules; OutIn specifically rules out Dolce Gusto for Mino. [4]

Pre-ground coffee introduces another consideration. In an OutIn owner discussion, some buyers favored Mino’s supplied setup for convenience, while the Nano Basket Plus appealed to people with a capable espresso grinder. That’s owner experience, not proof that Mino always tastes better. [7]

If you already grind beans and enjoy adjusting extraction, Nano with Basket Plus may be the more interesting purchase. If you would rather pack capsules or pre-measured grounds and minimize accessories, Mino’s included setup may suit you better.

Will the Battery and Heating Differences Matter in Practice?

OutIn advertises a roughly 149-second heat-up for Mino using 50ml of water starting at 25°C, compared with approximately 200 seconds for the original Nano under its stated conditions. The brand also lists up to six self-heated brews per charge for Mino and up to five for Nano. These figures are manufacturer benchmarks, not guaranteed trip results. [1] [2]

For context, Coffee Chronicler reported four self-heated shots from Mino and three from Nano using 60ml in its own testing. Brew Coffee Home also examined battery and heating performance. Water temperature, serving size and test conditions affect results, so one reviewer’s count should not become a promise about your particular device. [6] [5]

Battery and protection matter on remote trips. With easy charging and shelter, those benefits may justify less spending.

Is Mino Worth the Extra Money?

At the checked US listings in October 2026, the original Nano was $149.99, Mino was $199.99, and the original Nano Basket Plus was $39.99. On that basis, Nano plus Basket Plus would total $189.98 before taxes and shipping, close to Mino’s standard listed price. These are a dated comparison, not a promise of current discounts or availability. [1] [2] [3]

Base prices alone mislead. Include Basket Plus in Nano’s cost when larger shots matter. If you mostly use capsules, paying for that accessory may not help. Choose the setup you’ll use.

What Limitations Should You Know Before Buying?

Both machines require correct assembly, an appropriate grind and cleaning. OutIn’s FAQ addresses weak extraction, leakage and interruptions. Individual Reddit owners have also described Mino battery and water-leak problems. Those reports are worth reading, but they do not establish how often failures occur across all units. Check the official instructions, return terms and warranty exclusions before purchasing. [4] [11] [12]

Should You Consider Nano 2 Instead?

The newer Nano 2 is a separate product generation. Image: OutIn.

Nano 2 is a separate newer model, not another name for the original Nano. OutIn advertises up to nine cold-water brews per charge under its lab conditions. However, the original Nano Basket Plus is not compatible with Nano 2. If long battery life is the deciding factor, investigate Nano 2; if an available 16–18g basket is the deciding factor, don’t assume its accessory ecosystem matches Nano 1. [9] [3]

Which OutIn Should You Actually Choose?

Choose Mino when compact packing, outdoor protection and a 12g standard dose match how you brew. Choose original Nano with Basket Plus when you specifically want larger ground-coffee doses and already own, or plan to use, a suitable grinder. Give Nano 2 a separate look when cold-water battery endurance takes priority over the original Nano’s larger-basket accessory.

If the unreleased Mino-specific Basket Plus would change your choice, confirm its availability before ordering. Prioritize what you can use today, not only the newest specifications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Nano Basket Plus fit the Mino?

No. The original Nano accessory is incompatible. A Mino-specific larger version has been previewed, but its retail status must be checked separately. [4] [8]

Can Mino and Nano both use Nespresso capsules?

Yes, Nespresso Original Line-compatible capsules. Do not confuse them with other capsule systems. [4]

Is the bigger basket always the better option?

No. It allows a larger dose, but good espresso still depends on beans, grinding and preparation. It is most relevant when larger ground-coffee shots are part of your routine.
