You may already be sold on buying a FUJI gi. The harder part comes next: which one? The All Around costs less but uses a heavier jacket. The Suparaito costs more to reduce weight. And if you are buying for an IBJJF event, neither model should automatically be treated as the competition choice just because older reviews recommend it.
That changes the question from “Is FUJI Sports worth buying?” to “Which FUJI model solves the problem I actually have without creating a new one?”

Is the Suparaito Really Worth About $40 More?
This is where the decision becomes more useful than simply comparing prices. The researched difference between the All Around and Suparaito is about $40, but what you are paying for is primarily a much lighter jacket: 350 GSM instead of 550 GSM. [1][2]
If heavy gis bother you, that difference can justify looking closely at the Suparaito. If they do not, paying more may not solve anything meaningful. Community discussions also repeatedly frame the two models around this same heavier-workhorse versus lighter-option trade-off rather than one simply being “better.”
If You Compete, Which FUJI Gi Is Actually Approved?
This is where older buying advice can create the wrong decision. FUJI’s current information says the All Around is not currently IBJJF compliant and the Suparaito is not its current approved option. The Competition Gi, by contrast, is explicitly listed as IBJJF Approved. [1][2][3]
IBJJF also says updated uniform rules took effect after the 2024 Gi World Championships. So if an older review calls a model tournament legal, that does not settle the question for a 2026 purchase. [6]
Practical takeaway: if competition compliance is essential, verify the exact current model and event requirements before ordering rather than buying from reputation alone.
What Size Should You Order?
Once the model is chosen, sizing becomes the next purchase risk. FUJI’s men’s chart separates A2, A2L, A2H and A3 because buyers at similar heights can still need different fits depending on weight and body proportions. [4]
That means an A2L is not simply “a bigger A2,” and an A2H is not interchangeable with A3. Long limbs, stockier proportions and being between height/weight ranges can change the decision.
Should You Wash a Slightly Large Gi to Shrink It?
That can look like an easy fix, but it creates a second problem. FUJI says its gis are preshrunk yet may still shrink by around one inch with cold washing and hang drying. The amount is not something you can precisely control. [4]
More importantly, FUJI’s current direct-store return policy requires eligible returned items to remain unwashed, unworn and unused in training. Washing the gi to test shrinkage can therefore remove the safer option of returning the wrong size. [5]
What About Durability?
FUJI positions the All Around specifically for heavy-duty daily training, and community discussions include owners reporting several years of use from FUJI gis. That supports the brand’s workhorse reputation, but it should not be turned into a guaranteed lifespan. Individual customer feedback also includes occasional stitching and fit complaints.
The useful takeaway is narrower: durability is a reasonable reason to consider FUJI, especially the All Around, but not a reason to ignore fit, weight or model-specific trade-offs.
So Who Should Choose Each Model?
For another buyer, none of those differences may justify changing from a gi or brand whose fit already works. The goal is not to force FUJI as the winner—it is to choose a model only when its trade-off matches your situation.
